PHIGS by Example

PHIGS by Example

$111.44

The PHIGS system is a computer graphics standard defining an interface between an application program and a computer graphics system. The PHIGS standard has received wide acceptance throughout the computer graphics industry and PHIGS libraries are available on most of the highperformance 3D graphics platforms today, including IBM, DEC, HP, SUN, Alliant, Stardent, and Silicon Graphics. In spite of this acceptance, there are no PHIGS texts available to the average software engineer or graphics students. PHIGS by Example will be that text. Written with the novice programmer in mind, the book starts with examples of very basic concepts and, after careful exploration of these aspects, moves on to more advanced topics. PHIGS by Example teaches the application programmer how to use the PHIGS standard in his/her own program. Each section of the book is built around programming examples, using the strategy that the best way to learn PHIGS is to use PHIGS. The sections begin with a conceptual discussion of the PHIGS topics presented in that section and is followed by a detailed explanation of an example program or subroutine. The sections are concluded with a set of exercises that are designed to challenge the reader to experiment with PHIGS functions describes in that section. The text assumes that the reader is familiar with basic graphics concepts; a complete understanding of these basics is helpful, but not required. Author: Gaman, William A./ Giovinazzo, William A. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Proof by example (also known as inappropriate generalization) is a logical fallacy whereby one or more examples are claimed as proof for a more general statement. In logic and rhetoric, a fallacy is incorrect reasoning in argumentation resulting in a misconception. By accident or design, fallacies may exploit emotional triggers in the listener or interlocutor (e.g. appeal to emotion), or take advantage of social relationships between people (e.g. argument from authority). Fallacious arguments are often structured using rhetorical patterns that obscure the logical argument, making fallacies more difficult to diagnose. Also, the components of the fallacy may be spread out over separate arguments. The taxonomy of material fallacies is based on that of Aristotles Organon (Sophistici elenchi). High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles In computer science, programming by example (PbE), also known as programming by demonstration or more generally as demonstrational programming, is an Enduser development technique for teaching a computer new behavior by demonstrating actions on concrete examples. The system records user actions and infers a generalized program that can be used upon new examples. PbE is intended to be easier than traditional programming, which generally requires learning and using a programming language. Many PbE systems have been developed as research prototypes, but few have found widespread realworld application. More recently, PbE has proved to be a useful paradigm for creating scientific workflows. PbE is used in two independent clients for the BioMOBY protocol: Seahawk and Gbrowse moby. Also the programming by demonstration term has been mostly adopted by robotics researchers for teaching new behaviors to the robot through a physical demonstration of the task.
