Audrey II rental – Emergency!?

We are in desperate need of the Audrey II puppets for our production of Little Shop next month. MTI charged way too much for our little community theatre and every other place we’ve contacted are already booked. Someone please help us!!!!! THANKS in advance!

Have you checked with local community theaters and schools to see if you could borrow it? Do you know of anyone close to you who has done the show in the past few years? If so, call them. They could at least tell you where they got it from. That is probably your best bet. You could probably get it from somewhere far away, but it might cost you a lot to have it come to you. If all else fails, you may need to make it yourself.

I know the theaters where I live borrow things from each other often. Hopefully you’ll find something besides MTI – which you might if you ask the right people.

Playwriting for Puppet Theatre

Playwriting for Puppet Theatre

$63.65

Playwriting for Puppet Theatre provides a foundation for those puppeteers, teachers and librarians who want to develop suitable scripts for puppet theatre. Mattson explores the difference between traditional theatre and puppet theatre and notes the special characteristics of the various puppets. The important aspects of script writing are then addressed. She considers the many general questions which must be answered by the playwright: the type of puppet to be used, the audience, and availability of resources and facilities. Suggestions are then given for dramatizing original ideas and for adapting wellknown stories. The chapter on plot development emphasizes the importance of perspective, transitional material and the need for action. One chapter proposes various ways to develop a character through dialogue, names, and behavior. Another chapter demonstrates how the use of rhyme can add interest and humor to a puppet play. Teachers will find suggestions on how to develop a play on a specific theme or about a specific character. Some attention is also given to the mechanics of writing a play. Includes a group of puppet plays which have been successfully performed by Seattle Puppetory Theatre. Among them are Rumplestiltskin, The Princess and the Pea, The BadTempered Wife, The Golden Axe, The Swineherd, and The Fisherman and His Wife. Production notes follow each script. Several samples of manipulation charts are included which may be used as an aid in blocking the puppets and the puppeteers for the various hand puppet productions. Author: Mattson, Jean M. Place, Television, and the Real Orange County.

Place, Television, and the Real Orange County.

$115.71

Place is a meaningful experience in the world, and is made through a unique intersection of social processes. Place is much more than the material embodiment of such social processes in a particular location, but also exists as an amalgam of memory, emotion, and imagination. Places of the media fit this description. More than just representations of reality, mediated places create a reality effect. Mediated places are an inextricable part of our daily lives, and directly engage the processes of placemaking by affecting our perception, senses, and subjectivity. This dissertation is an exploration of televisual place, undertaken through a case study of Orange County and three popular television shows set therein: The OC, Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, and The Real Housewives of Orange County. These shows are used to demonstrate how production techniques contribute to the placemaking process and how this process continues and culminates with audience engagement. First, landscape inscribes place with cultural meaning and provides the spaces within which narrative action unfolds. Within these spaces, through techniques which engender emotional realism, placemaking occurs as viewers forge an emotional connection to televisual place. Here place becomes real and personally meaningful. Televisual placemaking uses audiovisual and narrative effects to affectively create and recreate place, and this place is experienced directly by its audience. Survey responses demonstrate that viewers engage in televisual placemaking by incorporating televisual place into their own lived worlds. Finally, disappointing tourist experiences illustrate the intensely affective experience of televisual place. Televisual place, like any other, is the product of direct, haptical, meaningful experience of the world.
