Your mattress is an incredibly important and significant investment. How well you sleep invariably determines how you approach the day. We’ve all experienced days when we have slept fitfully and woken surly, before the day has even started.
A soft yet supportive mattress is the first step in ensuring you sleep soundly but new mattresses can be a significant financial cost. So how can you improve your sleep if your mattress is not quite right?
Experts suggest that you change your mattress no later than every ten years, so if your mattress is older than that or showing signs of break down (an uneven surface or reduction in support) then you should really consider purchasing a new one.
But if you have a relatively new mattress and want to take it to the next leave then there are a few things you can add to make your sleep worthy of your dreams.
A mattress topper is a thin foam mattress that is placed on top of your existing mattress and adds an extra layer of support and comfort. Generally these toppers are made of synthetic foam like eggshell foam or memory foam.
Mattress toppers are recommended for people who have a firm mattress they would like to soften and can come in various thicknesses.
A mattress pad is like a thick fitted sheet that you can wrap over your mattress and/or your mattress topper. The mattress pad is designed to protect your mattress from accidents and also offer a layer of insulation to help your body, and the mattress, breathe.
These mattress pads can be made from cotton, polyester or a mixture of both. Cotton is recommended over polyester and poly-cotton mixes because of its breathing, insulating and durability superiority.
If neither of these options suit, travel to a bedding showroom and try a few beds out. You just may find that your old mattress has had its last sleep.
